Victory is Taylor made for Cobham as the hammers hammer hapless Camberley in the cup final.
Cobham F.C. lifted Grant-McLellan Youth Cup after a stunning 4-1 victory over Camberley Town.
Cobham began with the 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 formation that had been so successful against Lingfield and East Grinstead hoping to absorb the early pressure then let the football do the talking. Camberley started off very lively however couldn’t convert there dominance of the possession into chances on goal. Rousell and Stratful were unmoved at the heart of the Cobham defence and kept Camberley at bay. Cobham then began to get talismanic midfielder Shane Rideout on the ball was cutting through Camberley like a hot knife through butter. Rideout sprayed a perfectally weighted pass wide to young winger Shane Cheeseman who cut inside and forced the keeper into a good save with his legs. Cheeseman terrorized the Camberley left back who was having a torrid time and was soon left fully exposed again in the 20th minute but Cheeseman’s shot flew just past the post.
Camberley offered little in attack and Michael Connell and Dan Rousell dealt with danger man 9 who hardly had a kick. Cobham were beginning to really test Camberley with there short passing game and in the 30th minute got there reward. A move that started from D. Rousell at centre back. Rousell slipped the ball into Rideout who turned into space picked out Timmy Taylor in space on the left wing, thanks to a great run from the tireless Thomas Hegarty who drew the defender away. At an acute angle Taylor raced towards the goal and with a cool head lifted the ball over the onrushing Camberley Keeper to spark wild celebrations. The rest of the half was all Cobham as Camberley looked deflated and Camberley had the goalkeeper to thank for keeping the score 0-1 at half time.
HALF TIME SCORE: Camberley Town 0-1 Cobham FC (Taylor)
Camberley came out the traps early in the second half and as predicted attacked right from the off. Once again however they had nothing to show for the possession. 15 year old Sam Petters who showed a wise head on young shoulders and was particually outstanding. He was not at all flusted by the pressure and grew as the game went on. Chris Rousell in the Cobham goal has still yet to be tested however dealt superbly with all high balls and did a solid job. Cobham then produced and a deadly 10minute spell that proved to be the fatal blows for Camberley. In the 52ND minute from Rideout’s corner lone striker Hegarty rose like a salmon and powered the ball home. (NOTE I DON’T KNOW IF THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE I WAS GETTING KEN’S COFFEE) 4 minutes later Rideout picked up the ball on the half way line and ran at the Camberly back 4 turning them inside out and back to front before his shot was blocked however his midfield partner George Peterkin crashed in Cobham’s 3rd. Cobham didn’t stop and in the 60th minute Man of the Match Taylor produce and a spectacular lob to seal the game.
Holding midfielder Matthew Brooke was a rock all game and set Rideout and Peterkin free with his solid and disciplined display. Camberley began to assert themselves again and worked C. Rousell in the Cobham goal who shoveled the shot onto the post however couldn’t get to the rebound before the striker who slammed the ball home. Fortunatly for Cobham the offside flag went up and the goal was ruled out. On 75minutes Camberley got the goal that they so craved. A moved through the middle resulted in a fierce shot which was saved superbly by Rousell however the rebound was knocked home. The last 15 minutes were confortable and Cobham saw the game through to win. Captain D. Rousell lifted the trophy aloft and Cobham F.C had won the Grant-McLellan Youth Cup.
Cobham: C. Rousell, Petters, Stratful, Rousell (C), Connell, Taylor, Rideout, Brooke, Peterkin (Hockley 80mins), Cheeseman, Hegarty.
Each and every player played out of there skin. Hegarty worked tirelessly all game and makes the 4-5-1 system work. Rousell and Stratful laid the foundations for victory. Taylor and Cheeseman crucified their markers. Peterkin was strong and a force in the midfield. Petters and Connell were as solid as a rock and nobody got in behind them. Chris Rousell did everything he had to do with minimum fuss and did it well. Brooke kept the game ticking and Rideout just tore them apart. Limb from Limb.
